Al- Hafla is Arabic meaning 'The Party'. This is an event to celebrate the
traditions and customs of the Middle East during the late medieval period.
There is overall Ottoman theme to this event.
The event site is located at the Pennsylvania National Guard Maintenance
Building, 301 Prospect Ave., Bethlehem PA. 18018. The site opens at 10am and
closes at 10pm.
Classes are being formed that will be geared at introducing people into the
cultures of the Middle East. Topics may include: basic garb questions,
developing personas, selecting names, cultural etiquette and traditions.
There will be plenty of music and dancing for everyone. People are encouraged to
bring carpets, pillows and tapestries/banners etc. to decorate the hall with.
Musicians are highly encouraged to bring their instruments. The Middle Eastern
Library will be on hand to help with researching and information. People are
encouraged to bring any books on Middle Eastern topics.
All of our guests will be offered a light meal in the afternoon. The evening's
feast will be followed with more music and dancing. There will be room in the
hall for offboard seating either on the floor or western style.
NOTE: please be aware that the feast will be served in period fashion with
floor seating. Please contact the autocrat if the arranged seating would make
it difficult for you to join us for the feast.
Although no tournaments, or any other form of combat would have taken place at
al Hafla, there will be a separate area of the site where those martially
inclined can amuse themselves during the day.
