By Special Decree of the Daimyo...
Amateur Sumo Tournament!
The Sword and Chrysanthemum matsuri celebrates the
turning of the seasons after a successful harvest here
in Matsuyama-han. What better way to celebrate than with
a sumo tournament? Our Daimyo has decreed that this
tournament be open to all aspiring Rikishi
("gentlemen of strength") who are of legal SCA
fighting age. Lady Rikishi are also welcome, of course.
Sign-up will be at the Gatekeeper's desk.
This tournament will use
authentic sumo rules.
It is expected that all matches will be conducted in a chivalrous and light-hearted manner. After all, sumo is new to Matsuyama, so we are all novices.
The winner of the match will be named Yokozuna
("Grand Champion") and receive an appropriate
award.
